Floral Black and Grey Tattoos | San Diego Artist
Floral black and grey tattoos are some of my favorite projects to work on here in San Diego. They age beautifully and flow naturally with the body. This piece was done in one sitting at Remington Tattoo in North Park, adding onto a healed sunflower I tattooed about three years ago. We built on that foundation with a new sunflower and a rose, blending old and new into one cohesive design.
The session took about four hours. Which tends to be the limit for most people before fatigue sets in. That’s usually enough time to complete something substantial without overworking the skin.
Designing floral black and grey tattoos That Age Gracefully
When designing botanical tattoos, the goal is to create movement and balance that complements the shape of the body. The way petals curve and leaves wrap around the arm isn’t random, it’s planned for both flow and longevity. This piece mixes fine line detail with stipple shading, smooth mag gradients, and a few bold lines to make sure it reads clearly and heals strong.
Next, we’ll be adding a moth on the back of the arm to complete the wrap, tying everything together so it feels like one continuous composition.
Planning Your Next Black and Grey plant inspired Piece in North Park
If you’re thinking about starting a botanical or floral piece, consider what kind of style speaks to you — soft stipple work, fine line detail, or something bolder. Also think about your sitting time; most people do best with sessions around three hours long.
If you’re in San Diego and considering your own floral black and grey tattoo, I’m currently booking new projects at Remington Tattoo in North Park. Every tattoo I do is custom-drawn to fit the person — designed for flow, balance, and meaning.
