Custom-Built Tattoo Machines: Craftsmanship and Performance

buy the Best american coil lINers and shaders

My passion for tattoo machines began during my apprenticeship in 1998. One of my earliest lessons involved assembling and tuning a Spaulding and Rogers kit. I immediately started experimenting—removing the tube vise, adding Tischner spoons, and tweaking settings with tape and custom contact points. It became clear to me that building and tuning machines is an art form—another way for tattooers to express themselves.

Back then, there were only a handful of reputable builders and suppliers. I often found myself struggling to get my machines running just right. Everything changed when I received my first custom machines from Carson Vester—they were smooth, efficient, and taught me so much about the relationship between machine setup and tattooing techniques.

hand-Crafted by an Artist

As a professional tattoo artist, I understand how important it is to have tools that feel intuitive and reliable. I've been building machines since 2010, combining my knowledge of tattooing with my passion for engineering and design. Each machine I create is built with the tattoo artist in mind, ensuring it meets the unique needs of professionals who value precision and performance.

My experience as a working artist allows me to fine-tune every machine for specific tasks—whether it’s bold traditional lines, smooth shading, or intricate fine-line work. I test every machine personally by tattooing with it, ensuring it’s ready for the demands of any professional tattooist.

made for you in san diego

Based in San Diego, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of tattoo artists and clients. San Diego’s tattoo culture inspires me to create machines that reflect the artistry and creativity of our community. From bold traditional styles to delicate fine-line tattoos, my machines are designed to perform in the hands of artists from all walks of life.

The sunny and creative atmosphere of Southern California has shaped my approach to building tattoo machines (the weather helps too!). It’s a place where art and innovation thrive, and I’m proud to contribute to the craft through my custom-built tools.

the best tools for our trade

Since 2010, I’ve been crafting tattoo machines one at a time in my small workshop in San Diego. This process has allowed me to combine my love of tattooing with my interest in engineering and design. From machining raw parts to TIG welding and experimenting with finishing techniques, I’ve refined my craft over the years.

I work with a variety of materials, including brass, steel, and aluminum, though I favor the classic feel of steel or a combination of steel and brass. Each machine is designed with specific geometry for tasks like lining, shading, or packing color, and I personally tattoo with every machine to ensure it performs perfectly.
